A Dutch company, specialized in vertical farming, is looking for an Mechanical Engineer or an Agricultural Engineer with a drive for innovation and passion for agricultural-tech.  It’s a start-up, with a clear strategy and mission and it will open its first commercial vertical farm in mid-2018 in the Netherlands. 

The job is open to Dutch and EU-talent that is willing to live in The Netherlands, Westland area (The Hague).

Your job

You will coordinate and execute projects related to innovation & automation. Examples include (but not limited to) automation of the harvesting, packaging and soil treatment machines. Through a clear project-based approach, you make sure the automation solution is developed using a clear timing and planning (within budget). This includes the different development phases. You visit potential suppliers in Europe to understand the process and the needs. You make proposals for solutions. You guide the manufacturing process in the different development phases. You test the solution and the new equipment with the suppliers.

Innovation is your main drive. We are looking for an enthusiastic mechanical engineer with an interest in working in an agricultural high-tech company. You can work independently and you have strong planning & organization skills. You will be based in Poeldijk, The Netherlands.

The successful candidate will possess the following: 

  • As a young engineer with 3-10 years working experience, you demonstrate the desire to pursue an engineering career at an international agriculture high-tech company.
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, agrotechnology or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English and one other European Language.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Europe and living in the Netherlands, The Haque area.
  • Expect and achieve superior results.
  • Proven ability to communicate confidently and effectively.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness and seek constructive feedback.
  • Use knowledge and experience to seek out effective, creative solutions.
  • Embrace different ideas and opinions.
  • Strong ability to act as a team player.
  • Ability to analyse data (data mining) to drive innovation.
Our client is an international high-tech startup in the agricultural sector. They establish their first production hall and head office in Poeldijk.  The company grows herbs under ideal conditions. This is called vertical farming. Sustainability is highly valued. Because of the growth method, there is a constant quality. No pesticides are used and the logistics are local to local. The team currently consists of 15 members. This number is growing strongly in the coming period. They are located in the Westland area, near The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam.
